The APC has won the governorship election in Ekiti, defeating the SDP and PDP.
In the early hours of today (Sunday), supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State erupted in excitement as the results of Saturday’s governorship election revealed that the party’s candidate, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, had defeated the other 15 contenders.
 
Oyebanji, the state’s immediate past Secretary to the Government, won 15 of the state’s 16 Local Government Areas. He received a total of 187,057 votes.
 
Mr Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party, his closest rival, received 82,211 votes, while Bisi Kolawole of the Peoples Democratic Party received 67,457 votes. Kolawole won his LGA, Efon, with 6,303 votes against the APC’s 4,012 and the SDP’s 339.Meanwhile, locals in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, flocked to the streets in the middle of night to celebrate the triumph, according to our journalists who observed the exercise across the state. Other APC governors, led by the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, watched the drill from the Government House in the Oke Ayoba section of town.
 
Residents in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area, where Oyebanji is from, have also begun celebrating their kinsman’s election triumph.
 
As the results were reported by the individual local government Returning Officers, locals in Ikere-Ekiti, where Oyebanji’s running partner, Mrs Monitade Afuye, came from, began celebrating as well.
 
Some members of the ruling party also rejoiced in different sections of the state..
