—BAT Campaign spokesman Masari is simply atop the gap; Tinubu is still looking for a running companion.
Bayo Onanuga, spokesman for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organisation, has clarified Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, a Katsina State politician, as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer in the 2023 general election.
Tinubu had nominated Masari as his running mate to beat the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Friday deadline for all political parties to nominate candidates for elected posts.
When the former Lagos State Governor and APC National Leader returned to Nigeria, he startled Nigerians by choosing Masari, whom many regard as an unknown entity.
In a statement released on Saturday, Onanuga clarified the matter, saying Masari was only a stopgap nominee who was nominated to give Tinubu and the party time to find a running mate to replace the party’s former National Welfare Officer.
“Ibrahim Masari is not a surrogate in the sense that some people believe. He’s just spouting off. “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC would have adequate time to seek for a good and accepted running mate since the election legislation says that candidates have a window period to substitute up until sometime in August,” Onanuga stated.
Askingmediahow gathered that, Asiwaju plans to use the opportunity to discuss with the party, governors, and the president. He’s making a move.
“All he wants to do is carry everyone along.” Even the elections will be held in 2023, with the campaign beginning in September. The window of opportunity is still open. There’s no need to speed through anything.
“I believe we have done our part by submitting the name as necessary before the deadline set by INEC,” he continued.
